
Kindergarten Readiness Skills
Language and Reading:
- I can sing the ABC’s.
- I can name some letters and letter sounds.
- I know the difference between letters, numbers, and shapes.
- I can sit and listen to a short story and tell you what happened.
- I know how to hold a book. I know the front of the book and the back of the book. I also know that the left page is followed by the right page when reading a book.
- I can print my name with a capital letter at the beginning followed by all lowercase letters.
- I hear my parents speak to me, and I respond with a full sentence.
Math and Reasoning:
- I can count to 10.
- I can recognize the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
- I can write the numbers to 5.
- I can name the six basic geometric shapes.
- I can name and sort items by color, shape and size.
Basic Skills:
- I can hold a pencil.
- I can use scissors.
- I know the colors-red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, black, brown, and pink.
- I take care of my dressing (zipping jackets, buttoning pants, tying shoes, etc.) and bathroom needs.
Social Skills:
- I settle into new group situations with little stress.
- I transition easily to different activities.
- I can focus on a task for at least 5 minutes, even if there are distractions.
- I can remember and follow 3-step sequence of actions.
- I follow simple rules.
- I help clean up after activities.
- I play and share nicely with others.
